in memory of my late son

Gregor was born in 1971. His childhood was spent on the Island of Mull, where his spirit of adventure was given a free rein. He and his two younger brothers had a freedom which city dwellers can only dream about – acres of wild woods and moors, a river to swim in and a loch, with a boat for fishing.

In 1991 he spent several months in Africa with his girlfriend Louise. They went whitewater rafting on the Zambezi river to celebrate his 20th birthday.

That same spirit of adventure led him to choose work at sea. In May 1996, the clam fishing boat he worked on was heading for a refit at Buckie on the Scottish north-east coast, from Tobermory on the Island of Mull, through the Caledonian Canal. Early in the morning of the 19th of May, Gregor fell from the boat at Dochdarroch Lock, near Inverness. His heart stopped when he entered the water.

Gregor loved music and he left behind myriads of musical memories. Among his favourites: Bob Marley, Guns & Roses, Led Zeppelin, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Metallica, Nirvana, Queen – and on Christmas Day, Handel’s Messiah!

Gregor was 24 years old when he left this life to start his next great adventure and he was buried at Tobermory.

His place in the lives of his family and friends can never be taken. He was my son and my friend, and I will always miss him.
